The Story
Bought in 2020 from my late friend Peter Bartold. Rebuilt engine, brakes, new dash and suspension update, by Ashley Stone (while I watched and cleaned parts) during a number of weekends over 2 years. Wheels donated by another friend Matt Gill, who bought the wheels off me 10 years earlier. They were the alloys my parents bought for our original car, back in the 80s. Cars first outing was in 2023, to compete in tbe Fiat Nationals, where is won 1st and 2nd in its class in the super sprint. It’s now used for attending events, track days and being driven by family and friends.

About the 1982 Fiat X1/9
The Fiat X1/9 is a mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive two-seater sports car designed by Marcello Gandini at Bertone. The 1982 model is part of the 1500 Series (1978–1982), which received the larger 1498cc SOHC inline-four engine producing 85 horsepower — a welcome upgrade over the earlier 1300. The 1500 also introduced the five-speed gearbox, larger brakes, and the distinctive dual-slot front bumper. In Australia, the 1500 Series was sold through Fiat dealers and became the most popular version of the X1/9. Many examples survive today thanks to Australia’s dry climate, and they remain eligible for historic vehicle registration in most states. The 1500’s improved drivability and parts availability make it a favourite among owners and restorers.
